Oh, all right, I'm listening to this one too

This is one of the old, old favourites. Just click here.

My favourite line: parachuting acid into diplomatic cocktail parties. Well, really all the lines are my favourite lines. Other forms of boredom advertised as poetry is right up there too.

People like to make jokes about Leonard Cohen being a doomy, Canadian droner, but oh, oh, he wrote lines that still make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. I got my first Leonard Cohen album, Songs of Love and Hate, when I was seven. This may explain quite a lot.

Timewarp of the day

Do you remember the days when you would shut the door to your room, put on The Ramones at full volume, and do that special kind of dancing which involved jumping up and down with your head slightly on one side? (I think it was a kind of post-punk hop.)

Please don't say it was just me.

It's very hard to pick your favourite Ramones song, but I think this is mine. Although their finest lyric comes from Teenage Lobotomy, and it went:

Now I guess I'll have to tell them
That I got no cerebellum.

They really don't write them like that any more.

Song of the day

My friend the Playwright sent this right over to help me deal with deadline fever. It's quite hard to stay in the Monday doldrums when a handsome man is singing that Broadway is 'not just for gays any more'. Watch out for the lovely sailors. There's something about a sailor suit.

Lovely boys

I adore these charming singing boys. I don't want to sound patronising, but there is something amazingly charming about a pop fellow who is brave enough to wear a woolly jumper whilst singing at Glastonbury. Anyway, I love this song:

Video of the Day

REM are splitting up. Sometimes I forget how damn good they were. This is to remind me.
